Pressing the bright switch in the high gain mode results in a more present sounding tone that maintains clarity despite the saturation and has enough top end to really cut through a full band mix.
Although the Bassbreaker is a naturally darker sounding amp, it has a “bright” switch which adds a lot of upper mids and some treble. The final setting is the highest gain mode, landing right in modern hard rock territory. Pick gently and roll off the volume on your guitar and you’ll get a lovely clean tone, but if you dig in and strum out some big power chords and you’ll be in full classic rock territory. This is fantastic for blues and rock, the darker voicing and prominent mids reminded me of a cranked Marshall Plexi stack.Īlthough being dirty enough to mimic anything from 70s Aerosmith to Led Zeppelin and beyond, this crunch setting is still wonderfully responsive to your playing dynamics. The middle setting is the crunch mode, with higher gain. In this respect, the Bassbreaker sounds a lot more British – somewhere between a classic Fender and a Vox AC30.Īs well as being a good sounding clean amp, this setting is also an ideal pedal platform, responding very well to the various distortion pedals we put into the signal chain. This is most reminiscent to other flagship Fender amp models, delivering the kind of glassy tones you’d expect of a Fender but much darker and boomier, with a more pronounced midrange.
